< Sandworm
Trivia[edit]
- The interior of a sandworm can emit a magical light for visibility (source: Kenkou tweet).
- By developing their mamono mana and intelligence over time via being married, a sandworm can learn how to shrink her shell down to the point that she looks rather like a lamia, allowing her to go into towns with her husband. She can also learn to morph the parts of her body attached to the inner worm flesh to make them look more human, however she cannot actually detach herself from the shell (source: Kenkou’s Q and A topic).
- It is possible for a sandworm to use the control she has over her shell's flesh to create closed off, dry rooms (mostly for her husband to store things), as well as fleshy equivalents of beds or benches (source: Kenkou’s Japanese Q and A)..
- To reproduce, the female body within the shell lays an egg. The baby sandworm has a small/fragile shell after hatching and so both parents will raise her inside the mother's shell until she grows larger.(source: Kenkou’s Japanese Q and A).
- When freely flowing the hair of a sandworm feels like damp human hair, but if bound together it will have a texture like a tongue. The sandworm can freely control her hair to bind or unbind it (source: Kenkou’s Japanese Q and A).
- While a sandworm must remain attached to her outer shell, the attachment point can be freely moved to anywhere on the body. This can allow her to fully form legs and have the attachment to her outer shell become something like a tail (source: Kenkou’s Japanese Q and A).
- There is a fairly expensive magic item called the "Sandworm Outing Ring" that can be purchased for use by monsters like sandworms. It is a ring fitted in the middle of the outer shell, which causes the body below that point to enter a pocket dimension. This allows the sandworm to move through ground outside a desert without digging it up, ruining roads, etc. Sandworm couples often make heavy use of mana cages to afford this item. Kenkou's Notes[edit]
This time, it's the sand insect that lurks within the sand, "Sandworm." With this, we'll say farewell to the desert for a while. The female part looks like a fake serving as bait, but that's her real body. She leaps out of the ground and gulps down men, but in a sexual way so please rest assured. The shell protects the real body, and inside serves as a living space for her and her husband.
When you include that living space--the sandworm's body--she's a monster girl with a fairly large body. There exists a living being that's suited for the two of them to use, and an enormous living being with a mouth that you could say is the size of a room.*[1]...
- TL Note:This last sentence is translated a bit stiffly because I couldn't follow the nuance implied by linking the two phrases with から. It's not wrong as far as the info about the sandworm's concerned.[1]
